Below are a list of frequently asked questions and answers. If you have any additional questions that you would like to ask, I would be happy to answer them for you.
Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW’s), like other mental health professionals, complete assessments and provide counseling. The biggest difference between LCSW’s and other professionals such as Licensed Psychologists (LP’s) is the length of schooling required. LCSW’s have a master’s degree while LP’s have a PhD.
In my experience I have found that apart from schooling, an LCSW can be just as proficient as any other therapist and vice versa. What separates one clinician from another is the amount of experience that they have and the amount of study that they have done since graduating school. As your therapist that is why I am continuously learning and growing. I want to be the most proficient therapist that I can be for my clients.
The first appointment is an intake assessment which is 60 minutes long. During the intake assessment I will ask you questions about your life history and what brings you into counseling. This helps give me a holistic understanding of who you are, what you are wanting to work on and your strengths.
After the intake assessment we will focus on what brings you into counseling whether that be to work through past trauma, to receive support or to improve ones self-esteem. Along the way if therapeutically helpful I will also suggest certain skills, readings or other information that may help you in your journey.
Paying for services yourself instead of going through insurance gives you the most flexibility when it comes to your healthcare needs. There is no diagnosis required, insurance stipulations, pre-authorizations or session limits. Feel free to consult with me further about any additional questions you may have.
The cost for services is dependent on several factors. The first is whether you will be using insurance to pay for services or will paying for them yourself (self pay). If you will be utilizing your insurance, it is highly recommended that you call your insurance plan (the member services number on the back of your insurance card) to find out what your cost share is. Each plan is different so your cost share can range from a deductible to co-insurance to a copay. Prior to commencing services it therefore important that you find out what your cost share is as you will be responsible for the cost of the service at the time of the appointment.
For more information about the self pay cost for services please reference the ‘Services’ page.
In compliance with the No Surprises Act, all uninsured and self-pay clients will receive a Good Faith Estimate upon request and/or prior to your scheduled intake appointment. For more information about the No Surprises Act and your right to a Good Faith Estimate please click the link below.
